Discussion: Active Risk Manager (ARM) - to buy or not to buy?
I have just made the decision, and I chose not to buy. I chose Predict Risk Controller.
Monte Carlo modelling capability was not a factor, although both Predict and ARM offer this functionality, as I agree that managing risk and modelling risk are separate processes needing a specific view of the available data to achieve the objective. Other functionality that I require is roughly equivalent between the two products.
I am implementing a risk management system across a very large infrastructure programme. I want to bring both the client and the supply chain into the risk management process. I therefore need control over who can see what and I need to be able to fine tune access and functionality to the ability of the user/organisation. I also do not know at this point in time exactly how many users I will have
An ARM deployment would force me to use predetermined access levels using a large number of named licences. Changes in plans for the licences (promotion/demotion, eg a user needing additional functionality that is not available in the allocated licence) requires a completely new licence to be purchased and the other to be left fallow.
Predict on the other hand has a concurrent licencing system with fine access control completely in my control as administrator. Those users who need occasional or sporadic access do not require a dedicated, potentially expensive, named licence.
This wasn't the only factor in the decision, but it is an important one, which I have not seen mentioned before.
